[00:39:58] started the latest from atlas usa uh a potential dark horse late entry for game of the year 2024 if i hadn't already given it to it to yakuza like a dragon infinite wealth it would very much be metaphor re-fantasio are you familiar with this have you heard of this i have i have i've heard i've heard it's uh oh it's what persona was a little bit more woke but a little bit a little bit

[00:40:27] not in a pejorative way but it's like yeah it's like if japanese devs got rid of some of their neuroses and maybe like kind of branched out in their subject matter yeah it does have a lot of stuff that if you've played final fantasy in the past 30 years you'll feel right at home there's all these different magical races and there's a a prince who's uh who's been under a curse and you

[00:40:51] got to help him and all this stuff and it's a medieval fantasy realm that's the basics of it um you know the the king is assassinated and and you gotta go on a tour of the country much like final fantasy 15 you got to go on a tour of the country to prove to everyone that you're worthy of being the king um and that kind of stuff is interesting but what really gets me about these types of games is

[00:41:19] that much like persona much like a lot of the other spin-offs of the shin megami tensei series it's more about the characters and their relationships to each other and this game has some really interesting ones you know former knights who have lost their glory you've got uh you know guys who used to be nobility and then they've kind of fallen from grace you have a a former soldier who everyone believes killed his son and he's been in hiding and so there's all these interesting stories where you're

[00:41:48] kind of bringing these people from their darkest moments and you're you and your journey are changing them and they're changing you by going with you it's it's nice i i like the writing and some of the fantasy stuff is kind of okay it's been played out the systems are great there's kind of a like a job system where you learn these jobs as you go each job has different powers yada yada yada it's just the

[00:42:12] combination of things the menus look good the music's great the voice acting's top notch and i think uh if if you're looking for a fantasy game that includes like hieromonimus bosch creatures as your enemies it could do worse sounds pretty good yeah i uh as someone that's been still trying to play persona 5 for like six years i know it's a long game my still my complaint is i don't want to feel every single

[00:42:37] time i sit down to play this game i have to spend the exact same amount of time in a single session as i would be from driving from st louis to uh denver that's fair i mean like i get it it's it's definitely a a game that demands your time and attention i will give you that yeah i wish i had that life still i don't know how you do it i mean i guess you know your your children at that age where

[00:43:01] you can neglect them so it's less about that and just about the fact that like their teens they have things that they want to do that don't involve me and i'm like okay well i guess i'll sneak in like a half hour here half hour there everyone goes to bed at like 10 and so i'm like oh well i'll i'll go game for a bit and then i wind up staying up till three so you know it's that it's not good for

[00:43:27] me how about yourself sir what do you got for us this week uh not too much not too much i mean we haven't recorded for a couple weeks because last week i was sick and now this week you're a little under the weather i know that's something in it yeah i'm really sorry to say i wasn't like the kind of sick where i was able to like get anything done that i like wanted i've been putting off because i've been so busy like i still have like a shit ton of laundry to put up i still have tons of foes

[00:43:53] it was like the kind of sickness where uh you just all you really have the capacity and bandwidth for is it just like rotten bed and like doom scroll and so all the social media apps the algorithms really don't know what to do with me i keep getting like on facebook one day it was all um sneakerhead shit like i was just getting shit from sneakerhead pages and they're just like really

[00:44:17] bad humorless gag jokes and you really start understanding like i don't understand for me like i don't understand how people can have just like a a slop page on facebook or instagram and make a ton of money yeah but apparently you can you could just like steal shit from other pages rehost it yeah and you'll get a hundred thousand views and you're just okay and i guess you do that every day i don't know

[00:44:42] um it's got to be on and then one day one day decided that uh one of the algorithms decided that i was really into like 1970s custom van culture okay all right well hey i'm intrigued so what did it show you're like frank rosetta ass just like dude just like guys who have definitely have lost their license at one point in their life talking about like yeah here's like my uh my early 80s ford some another and

[00:46:00] as stuff that i was able to just entertain myself with i did decide at one point i felt well enough to revisit the abysmal david lindelof watchman limited series okay i thought that um because i felt that that show originally had such a shitty thesis and was such a bizarre half-baked knee-jerk

[00:46:30] reaction to what was going on in the uh larger culture here in the united states at the time i thought that uh some time some distance from that would give it some levity yeah and uh it's just as bad it's just as shitty it i don't know if this show is pro-cop or anti-cop i don't know if it's pro-fascist or anti-fascist i don't even know if david lindelof knows if this thing that he asked atticus fitch and

[00:46:59] uh uh trent resner to soundtrack if he even knows what that show is about but i did realize just how much of the story beats are or little parts of the story are just echoes from the original but without any good context or rhythm like how like oh yeah there's a news guy and he's like kind

[00:47:26] of dressed old-timey but there's really not much else other than that then there's this this really like outdated trope character and then um the stuff with the the egg at the end fuck man it's just the spoiler hook or the the sequel hook it definitely left me a little cold there i yeah and for me as well the fact that uh who they got the who was it they got to play ozymandias i forget that that's

[00:48:19] i'm not wrong am i no no not necessarily i mean uh considering how many other character actors are in that i'm trying to think who else was a lewis gossett jr uh let's see tim blake nelson who always kind of plays that kind of jug hooter character uh uh don johnson also another guy that i always think of is kind of like playing the the southern fella and i know i know i know it takes place in oklahoma

[00:48:47] but it's still like i don't know man this does ozymandias have to be that too it is out of place it is a little strange yeah it just doesn't have i don't feel like it has like an identity it really just oh this this had no reason to exist yeah i mean and everyone wants to kidnap dr manhattan and it's like but why it's never really explained so they could be god yeah but again

[00:49:15] what is that gonna yeah yeah it's too many questions nelson apparently also directed a couple music videos for billy woods which makes sense that's interesting i had no idea but yeah i think they uh i think they left alan moore's names off the credits of that show yeah because he said yeah i'm not i'm not happy with this well he wasn't happy with um with the movie and and like did not want to take any

[00:49:42] residuals i feel like lindelof is is so hit or miss like sometimes his shit kicks ass i liked the leftovers i don't know what you thought uh i haven't watched it because um i've this was enough to turn me off of david lindelof forever oh man a lot of the commentary a lot of the the think pieces that

[00:50:04] accompanied this uh show also were just kind of like yeah i think this dude's done like uh are people that had a suspicion that this guy had like a really limited runway like you thought m night shamalan had a real bad shelf life i don't know man he he's got such an interesting you know like he came up during the lost era of tv so he's got that under his belt but i mean he also if i remember

[00:50:32] correctly he was involved in that once upon a time show which i didn't necessarily care for but some people dug it he did at least one pass on ridley scott's prometheus oh he co-wrote cowboys and aliens yes wow yes he did the uh his his wiki pfo looks like a guy who is just realizing that he's about to be shot the by a stranger on the street he's just got that that concern look on his face like oh

[00:51:48] even though there was something called mgm whatever yeah so mgm plus much like paramount plus is uh a studio trying to to milk some stuff off of its known name well their one exclusive show is this one also created by one of the guys who worked on lost jack bender it also stars harold perenow who played michael on lost he's one of the main characters there but it's such an ensemble piece you got a lot of folks

[00:52:16] in there just a real dope cast three seasons now they just wrapped up their latest a couple months ago i want to say i don't know man i think from is one of those ones where it's a mystery box show that as it goes on yes the mysteries get kind of weirder and stupider but they also get more interesting and horror movie like it kind of feels like a stephen king thing where just a bunch of subplots are piling up on top of each other there's a phantom pregnancy in this one the

[00:52:46] police chief is experiencing parkinson's so now he's like really ready to pass on his legacy to the chinese guy i don't know it's it's got a lot of stuff happening there's a lot of moving parts i think it's one of those ones where i don't know if it doesn't grab me by the first episode sure makes sense but the whole purpose you're familiar with this show right i've told you about this uh no

[00:53:10] no not okay so the basic plot is that a family is driving on a trip somewhere else they they come across a tree across across the road they turn around and go back and then they wind up in this town that they can't escape from uh everyone in the town is like get inside because at night monsters show up it's kind of a setup that's been done before but the cast the acting all that stuff kind

[00:53:34] of takes it above and beyond so i can recommend it don't get mgm plus for it see what you can that's on youtube or wherever you can find it but i think it's worthwhile it definitely grabs me every time i i catch a new season of it it's one of those ones though like you tell people what it is and they're like well what's it called it's called from yeah but from what no fuck god damn it the name of the show is from like there was a show like that a couple years ago it was called the they

[00:54:03] i was like i think that was an amazon one where it was a they like okay it was supposed to be a play on jordan peele's us yes oh no them the tv series is called them so us and them which is by itself also great it's an anthology that one's an anthology show so each one each season tells a different story but another one where you'd be like somebody will tell you about it and you'll go
